Review:
This is the first book in the A Holiday to Remember 2017 series by Mischief Corner Books. There will be 11 stories in total with some new authors to the fold and quite a variety of genres!

But to Love More by Foster Bridget Cassidy tells the story of Mel, who finally gets to go home for Christmas for the first time in 6 years since he headed off for college. He works in a hotel, so getting time off at the holidays is very difficult and this trip was requested two years prior! His family reunion includes 4 siblings, one with a spouse, one with a significant other and two toddlers, his Dad kind of tunes it out while his Mom loves finally having everyone together! After being single and living alone for so long, it’s a lot to take but he gets a break when his bestfriend Aldo calls to invite him over. Aldo’s house is a bit more subdued with his wife, Cassandra, their two kids and Aldo’s Nana. The visit also brings the unexpected addition of Aldo’s younger brother, Carlos. The story is told from Mel’s point of view.

This was a nice introduction to the MCB holiday series, a contemporary story set in Minnesota with lead characters who have known each other for most of their lives. The difference being that Carlos, being a few years younger than Mel and Aldo, has grown up a bit since Mel last saw him, while Mel first pursued his degree then his career. While Mel expects a bit of excitement at Aldo’s place with two young children, he does not expect first tension then to be asked on a date, with Carlos being the key to both! When he does go out with Carlos, he finds out Carlos is looking for a relationship, not a holiday hook up, while Mel is still trying to reconcile how grown up Carlos is.

I did enjoy this story, it’s a nice short read, but since the story is told from Mel’s point of view, I would have liked a bit more of Mel’s evolution from reasons why they should not pursue something to the two men pursuing something! That part seemed a bit fast for me, but for those who like fast romance for holiday stories, they will likely enjoy that quite a bit. I did really enjoy the “showdown”, if you will, after midnight mass! That was both powerful with a bit of humor to it!

If you like holiday romance with couples who grew up together, you will likely enjoy this story.
